HARTSVILLE — Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center recently welcomed general, vascular, and endovascular surgeon Philip Chaipis to its Hartsville Surgical Center staff.
Dr. Chaipis has over 30 years of experience. His arrival to the area offers an expansion of the hospital’s services to include vascular surgery, along with the already established general surgery service line. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery. He specializes in treatments to address conditions such as venous insufficiency, varicose veins, spider veins, and deep vein thrombosis.

Prior to his joining Hartsville Surgical Center, Chaipis served as the medical director and practiced at the Center for Vein Restoration for almost three years. Prior to this, he served eight years as section chief of general surgery at the William Bryan Jennings Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia. Chaipis also held the position of assistant professor of clinical surgery at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. During this time, he also served as site director and assistant program director for the general surgery residency program at USC in Columbia, SC.
Chaipis has co-authored multiple medical journal publications. He has received numerous academic awards, including six Outstanding Clinical Faculty Awards from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, Department of Surgery, and the Lifetime Volunteer Faculty Clinical Achievement Award, South Carolina Beta Chapter of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
