Friday and Sunday were warm, sunny days, while the Tehama County Cattlemen’s 18-hole Golf Game on Saturday, April 6, had a cold South wind and mostly clouds, but it wasn’t raining at Wilcox Oaks Golf Course.

Several of the golfers were in shorts and short sleeves, while I was bundled in a vest and zipper-closed down jacket. It took a couple of hours to thaw out after riding with Hailey Pritchard and Catherine Compston in the beverage cart to get some pictures of the hardy golfers. Hailey and Catherine are Tehama County CattleWomen members.

The team winners were Tim Kuhn, Ryland Sanders, Larry La France, and Chris Chapin, who scored a 53 for $400 and first place. Their team was sponsored by Los Molinos ACE Hardware. Clint Brewer, Jason Smith, Nick Fowler, and Wyatt Williams, who scored a 54, took second place and $300. Third place and $200 went to the team from Corning Ford, which included Frances Hopping, Tom Voorhees, Ryan Holland, and Ryan Hake, who scored a 62.

Accuracy Award was a chainsaw from All American Emergency Services to Anthony May.

Longest Drive for men was a Corba Puma Golf, Aerojet Driver to Ken Loflin.

Longest Drive for women was a $200 gift certificate to Wilcox Oaks Golf for Katrina Eglian.

The men’s and women’s closest to the pin was Michelle Pitkin, who received a $50 Wilcox Oaks Golf Club gift certificate.

Special prizes to Brad Peek with golf at Wilcox Oaks for two, Dwight Mendonsa will be golfing in Fortuna, and Jesse Sisneros will be at Rolling Hills with dinner at the Casino.

Tehama County Cattlemen Association owes many thanks to Shelley Macdonald, Mike McCluskey, Tony Turri, and Bev Ross for another successful cold day of golf. This was the fifth year, I was told. However, no one had a hole-in-one to win the NEW red Ford Super Duty Pickup.

Shelley Macdonald handled check-in, TCCA Treasurer Bev Ross sold mulligans, and Kendra McCluskey sold mulligans. A California Beef Council swag bag contained a bottle of water from Bob’s Tire, a towel from Humphrey Construction, Blue Diamond almonds, and a clever mini burlap bag with a golf ball and tee.

The cattlemen awarded $ 2,000 to each of the seven deserving students.

The golf game proceeds will benefit TCCA Youth Activities and the preservation of agriculture and farming.

At the recent Cal Poly Royal Rodeo in San Luis Obispo, Red Bluff’s Tanner Kerr was first in the Steer Wrestling, riding for Feather River College.

Today, enjoy the Red Bluff Round-Up Parade, Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast, and the rodeo this afternoon and on Sunday, the final day of the 103rd Red Bluff Round-Up.
